Youngsters keeping more senior players on their toes.
James Collins says that manager Steve Davis will not hesitate to put the youngsters into his starting XI if he believes that they will produce consistent performances. Collins says that the Alex boss has a record of blooding young players and with the likes of George Cooper, Callum Ainley and Ryan Wintle all pushing for a first start of the season following their performance for the Development Squad against Watford, the Coach is not ruling out a surprise inclusion at Shrewsbury.
Collins says that performance of the young guns in Monday’s 5-3 win over Watford’s Under-21s has given the manager food for thought heading into the weekend.
The club’s first team coach told crewealex.net: “The young players here know that the gaffer will give them a chance. They have to produce a good level of performance and train well.
“Steve has never been afraid to introduce younger players into the team if he feels they are ready and will do better than those in the team who may have more experience. This club is renowned for giving young players a chance, ever since Dario came in, and Steve has been the same.
“If he feels one or two of the younger lads can make a difference to us then he would not hesitate to put them in.
He added: “Of course, it is always a big ask for a teenager to come in and make a difference but their performances on Monday have given us something to think about, certainly.”
