Steve Davis praise for Nugent as his first goal secures a point against second placed Walsall.

Steve Davis has praised the ‘immense performance’ of Ben Nugent at Walsall on Saturday. The club’s centre-half not only scored a superb equaliser with a low drive from outside of the box but he was also sound in his defending at the Banks’s Stadium to make sure Crewe picked up a point from a side brimming with confidence.

Davis was delighted with his side’s resilience at the back, especially as we lost Captain Harry Davis through injury just before the half-time interval.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Ben scored a terrific goal for us. He showed great technique to keep it low and find the bottom corner.

“I thought Ben was immense for us. He was heading it in both boxes, making blocks and tackles and led from the front. He was my man of the match and is showing real leadership qualities.”
