Steve Davis says players have to become more consistent in their performances.
Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that we cannot continue to ‘carry too many players’ in games if we are going to return to winning ways. The Crewe Alexandra boss has praised his side when they have played well and lost this season and has also been critical of performances even when we collected four points from two away games at Shrewsbury and Walsall.
Like all managers, Steve is searching for the perfect blend of result and performance and he has gone on record to say that he has been unhappy with the way his side have played in the last three games.
Crewe slipped to the bottom of League One on Tuesday evening after losing 2-1 to Southend and he believes that too many of his starting XI underperformed at Gresty Road.
Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The players are getting their chances and if they play well and deserve to stay in the team then they will.
“What we are finding at the moment is that we have only three or four players emerging from games with any credit. That isn’t enough at this level. We cannot carry players because this is a tough league and you will struggle to get results.
“We need the majority of our players performing well. You can perhaps carry one or two in a performance but not seven or eight.
“I went with an extra forward on Tuesday night and wanted us to go on the front foot. We didn’t start either half well and with one less in midfield we struggled a bit defensively when we didn’t have the ball and the forwards were okay but not really as dangerous as we would have wanted.
He added: “We looked dangerous in patches and played some good football in patches but it wasn’t enough. We have got to get back to enjoying playing at home. We need to want to get on the ball and make things happen.”
