Steve Targets Cup Progression

Alex boss previews Wigan JPT clash.

Crewe Alexandra host Gary Caldwell’s Wigan Athletic side this evening in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round and Steve Davis says it is a ‘good draw to have against one of League One’s outstanding teams’.

Wigan defeated the Railwaymen earlier in the season at the DW Stadium but Davis felt we were rather unfortunate not to have got something from the game after dominating large spells of possession. Michael Jacobs scored the only goal of the game and it arrived in controversial circumstances via a corner.

Jacobs appeared to give our defender George Ray a hefty nudge before heading home the only goal of the game. Crewe responded with Brad Inman seeing a great effort hit the foot of the Wigan box.

Ahead of this evening’s tie at Gresty Road, Steve told crewealex.net: “It is a good draw for us. We are at home against one of the main contenders and it will another good test for us.

“If we can put on a good performance and get a result against one of the better teams in League One then it would give us some confidence.

“It is a good competition and although attendances are never that great in the earlier rounds, it really picks up in the later rounds.

“We will try and get through and make progression in the competition and give our fans something to cheer.”
