Steve Praise For Edinburgh Job

Steve Davis looking forward to tactical battle with Gills boss Justin Edinburgh.

Steve Davis has praised the impact Justin Edinburgh has made as manager of Gillingham. The former Tottenham and Portsmouth defender left his position at Newport County back in February to take on the challenge at the Priestfield Stadium. He led the Gills to a mid-table finish last season and has now guided them to third in the table after making a terrific start to their season.

Ahead of our home clash with the Gills this weekend, Steve told crewealex.net: “Justin came into the club back in February and Gillingham had a good ending to the season. They were safe by a long way and they have built on that going into this season.

“He has slightly changed the way they play and they can go more direct at times than they did under Peter Taylor, but there are a good squad of players there and Justin added one or two very good signings in the summer.

“He didn’t change the squad too much and kept faith with them and it has paid off. They have made a good start to the season and there is no reason why they can’t be challenging for promotion this season.

“We will have to be hard to break down and hard to beat against them. If they all do their jobs, like they did last week at Barnsley and work hard out of possession then there is no reason why we cannot cause them problems and get a result.

Steve added: “I would like to see us creating more chances than we did last week but when we did look dangerous with the forward players we have.“
