Jones To Play For U-21s At Forest

19 October 2015

Midfielder James Jones will play his second game since overcoming shoulder injury.

Alex midfielder James Jones will feature for the club’s Development Squad away at Nottingham Forest today alongside the likes of Callum Ainley, Callum Saunders and Ryan Wintle.

Jones will make his second appearance for Alex Morris’ Under-21 side after completing 90 minutes at home to Doncaster Rovers in the Under-21 Premier Cup last Tuesday. Jones scored the winning goal via a free-kick in the club’s 3-2 win at Gresty Road. It was his first competitive appearance since undergoing shoulder surgery in the summer.

Jones was an unused substitute against Gillingham at the weekend with boss Steve Davis eager for this talented midfielder to acquire more minutes on the pitch in order to build up his match sharpness.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It can be a nuisance to have an Under-21 game before a first team game on a Tuesday night but that is a requirement of the EPPP and we have to go with it.

“Some of the players playing today will have to be on the bench for the first-team at Burton tomorrow night. That is what can happen when you have a small and young squad but it is something we have to contend with.

“The younger players need games as well so the likes of Ryan Wintle, Callum Ainley and Callum Saunders will play.

“It also gives us another chance to make sure Jonah gets some game time. He needs that and will only help his match fitness.”
