A fit James Jones adds competition to midfield engine room

James Jones is edging towards a first-team recall after almost three months out with a shoulder injury. The talented youngster made his first team return at Burton Albion on Tuesday evening, replacing Chris Atkinson at the Pirelli Stadium with close to half an hour to play.

Jonah had previously played an hour for the club’s Development squad on Monday afternoon at Nottingham Forest.

Jones, 19, is pushing for a recall after suffering a shoulder injury in a pre-season game at neighbouring Alsager Town and after undergoing surgery in the summer to rectify any weakness in the joint.

Steve Davis is just glad that he has the Scotland Youth International available for selection again: “Jonah is a very confident lad and has great faith in his own ability.

“He has been out for three months and will be chomping at the bit to play. He had a taste of it again at Burton on Tuesday night and naturally he wants more.

“It is great to have him back with us and I’m sure he just feels great to be back playing again. He is in and around the squad and will be picked on merit like everyone else.”
