It Was Time To Give Wilson A Go

21 October 2015

Crewe boss says he was eager to see what Liverpool loanee had to offer.

Steve Davis felt it was time to give on-loan forward Harry Wilson his full debut against Burton Albion last night. The on-loan Liverpool teenager certainly put a shift in before he was replaced just after the hour mark by the man he replaced in the team, Ryan Colclough.

Wilson, 18, had previously made three substitute appearances for the club and has to wait patiently for his first senior start.

Following the goalless draw at the Pirelli Stadium, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I just thought it was time to give Harry (Wilson) a go. He has had to wait for his chance and I wanted to see how he coped against a team that is right up there in League.

“I thought he coped well. He was fine on his full debut and he worked hard for the team, like they all did.

“I thought Ryan (Colclough) didn’t play as well as he has been doing on Saturday and he didn’t contribute as much as he has in the final third. I just felt it was time to give someone else a go.

He added: “I also thought Marcus (Haber) would add that extra height and strength through the middle and he ran about up there and worked really hard as well.”
