In Great Adversity We Came Through

Boss praises the organisation and discipline

Steve Davis praised his side’s dogged and gutsy display at Barnsley after they collected a hard earned second win of the season thanks to goals in each half from Ryan Colclough and Lauri Dalla Valle.

The Railwaymen went into the encounter at Oakwell with ten players missing through injury or International commitments but a solid defensive display provided us with the platform to hit the Tykes on the break with Dalle Valla converting a cross from Adam King to win the game in the final ten minutes.

Steve was full of praise for his side’s discipline and work ethic to make sure we got something for our efforts.

Following the 2-1 win, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We really had to dig in for a result and perhaps we had a bit of luck with the deflected cross towards the end but I felt it was a break we deserved.

“We played some decent football in the first half but they changed second half and pressed us more and we were not able to be as effective in the second half. We didn’t pass the ball as well in the second but they stuck at it and it was a hard earned win.

“They did a great job in containing them and restricting their genuine chances. We had a lot of players missing and the bench was made up mostly of our own, Academy graduates, but through such adversity you can come through and they did that.

He added: “Barnsley have a good home record this season and it was our aim to frustrate them and make things difficult and we managed to do that. They went longer at the end, where as before they would have passed it and been more patient. It was a great result for us.”
