Home Win Would Provide Confidence

6 October 2015

Alex boss says a home win over Wigan would show that we can beat the best in our division going forward.

Steve Davis is hoping that tonight’s meeting with Wigan Athletic will be a nice distraction from our current run at home in League One. The Alex boss wants to make progress in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy again after previously leading the club to success at Wembley back in 2013 and he feels that a positive result and performance could build some real momentum at a good time.

Crewe are still searching for their first home win of the season and a 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield on Saturday stretched our mini-run to four successive defeats at the Alexandra Stadium.

Ahead of our meeting with the Latics, the Alex boss told us: “We don’t want our run of results to continue at home. The performances have probably warranted more points and we don’t want that to continue. We want to win at home as soon as possible, to get that win in front of our own fans.

“We had two good results away from home at Shrewsbury and Walsall but haven’t been able to follow it up at home, which has been disappointing.

“We are still searching for that first home win and hopefully we can get it against Wigan because it should give us some momentum.

“I still want us to play our football and provide an entertaining game for the supporters. I want to enjoy watching our players playing a fluent game, as much as the supporters do

The boss added: “What we need to do is get that balance right and make sure we get the results as well but our philosophy won’t change. Dario (Gradi) stuck to his principles, we played the right way and had success with it. We had relegations and promotions along the way but the club reached its highest ever level, so there is no reason to change the style of play and go direct.”
