Steve Davis says his side can rise to the occasion and upset the odds against 3rd placed Gillingham.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says his side will be well organised and prepared for the visit of in-form Gillingham this weekend. Justin Edinburgh’s Gills are currently third in the League One table and have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season since thrashing the much fancied Sheffield United 4-0 on the opening day of the season at the Priestfield Stadium.
Crewe are still searching for that first home win of the campaign but come into the game on the back of a hard fought win at Barnsley last weekend. Crewe have collected 7 points out of 9 on the road but Davis knows that are home results have to improve if we are to progress up the table.
Ahead of this weekend’s encounter with the Gills, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Gillingham have made a fantastic start to the season and Justin (Edinburgh) has done a great job since he came in.
“They ended the season strongly and are right up this season. They will be working hard to sustain the start they have made.
“They have slightly altered the way they play but it has been successful for them and they have some very good players.
“We have watched them and gone through some DVD’s, so we know they are solid in most departments and they have goal threats throughout the team. We will prepare right and it is another challenge for us but we come into the game on the back of a good result at Barnsley.
He added: “Gillingham are in-form and it is up to ourselves to step up and show that we can compete against the teams at the top end. We did that at Walsall, so we have shown we can do it.”
