Guthrie: “We Can Only Apologise To The Fans”

26 October 2015

Defender Jon sorry the ‘terrific’ support wasn’t rewarded with points

Crewe Alexandra defender Jon Guthrie issued an apology to the fans on behalf of the players when addressing post-match press at Blackpool.

The 22-year-old paid tribute to the travelling hoards who came to support the team – only to leave disappointed as two second-half Tangerines goals condemned the Alex to defeat for the first time on the road in five matches.

Guthrie said: “The boys are gutted, we felt that we should’ve definitely at least picked up a draw. We played some good football but it’s all about taking your chances and unfortunately they did and we didn’t.

“It’s happening too often, we know that. We’re working hard to turn it around and start scoring goals again but we can’t afford to concede like that because those goals weren’t hard enough for them to put it.

“The fans were terrific. They made a massive difference in the corner and kept on singing throughout the game which is what we always want. We can only apologise to the fans and we hope we can turn it around for them soon.

“We don’t like losing games. Our away form has been good lately so we were confident going into the game but the result was a big disappointment. It was a good following from the supporters so we wanted to put a good performance in for them and pick something up for them – unfortunately we couldn’t do that.”
