Davis Pleased With Keeper Capture

2 October 2015

Manager relieved to have got back-up goalkeeper in for the weekend.

Steve Davis says it is a relief to have signed back-up goalkeeper Danijel Nizic on a youth loan from Burnley. The Australian Youth goalkeeper has signed initially on a one-month deal to act as cover and competition to first choice Ben Garratt due to Dave Richards’ foot injury.

Nizic has been given the number 30 shirt and will be on the substitutes’ bench for the visit of Chesterfield this weekend.

Steve says he may consider using the towering stopper at some stage and he could feature in Tuesday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy encounter against Wigan Athletic if he impresses in training.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “We have some contacts at Burnley and Neil (Baker) has been in touch with them and they were very good with us.

“Danijel is highly thought of at Burnley and it will be good for him to come here and be in a professional environment. I am sure it will be a good experience for him. He will be on the substitutes’ bench for the first time and we know he will be ready if we need him.

He added: “It is difficult to get a goalkeeper in on loan because it is a specialised position and when they go out on loan they want to play. We will try and give him some opportunities to play if we can because we do have a lot of games in October.”
