Adkins experience could see Sheffield United promoted back to the Championship.
Crewe boss Steve Davis believes that serial promotion winner Nigel Adkins could be the ideal man to lead Sheffield United back into the Championship. Adkins has already led his former clubs Scunthorpe and Southampton out of this division and of course he led the Saints back to the top flight before he was rather unfortunate to lose his job at St. Mary’s.
Davis says that Adkins is the perfect man to cope with the obvious expectation levels placed on such an historic and big club.
Ahead of our game this weekend, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Nigel has the experience of winning promotions from this level and he knows what to expect.
“He is the ideal man because he has done it twice already with his previous clubs. He knows there is always going to be a high expectation level at a club like Sheffield United. They are a big club and it just goes to show how difficult this level has become that they have struggled to get out of it over the last three seasons.
“They have a terrific fan base. They are very passionate fans and with that comes the added pressure. They expect to be up there challenging for automatic promotion. They have seen better times in the Premier League and the Championship and I’m sure Nigel will do his best to make sure that they get out of this league this year.”
