Crewe boss on the young player we tried to sign before the Blades swooped.
Steve Davis admits he would have loved to have signed Che Adams from Ilkeston. Adams, 19, has scored 7 goals in 14 appearances for this weekend’s opponents Sheffield United and Davis says that the powerful forward would have been a great addition to our young squad.
Crewe Alexandra were one of a large number of clubs who had been tracking the promising youngster but Adams elected to move to Bramall Lane for a reported six-figure sum in November 2014. The Alex did place a bid for the former Coventry City youth player could not match the offer made by the Blades.
Steve told crewealex.net: “Che is a young player we did identify fairly early but soon there were a lot of clubs watching him at Ilkeston.
“We did make a bid for him but then bids started coming in from everywhere and he went beyond us. We couldn’t match those figures.
“Che would have been a great addition for us. He is powerful, quick and can score goals, so I am surprised he has gone in and done well at this level.”
