U18: Crewe 4-4 Huddersfield

4 November 2015

Lunt's side drop two points in frenetic encounter

Crewe Alexandra Under 18's were made to rue missed opportunities as Huddersfield fought out a 4-4 draw at Reaseheath.

The Alex conceded two penalties, which the Terriers scored, and missed two of their own in the topsy-turvey tie that saw the team initially recover from 3-0 down.

It was a whirlwind opening 20 minutes for the visitors, one of their three early goals coming from the penalty spot.

Johnny Higham reduced the arrears to make it 3-1 with a header before early substitute Oli Finney saw a spot-kick saved.

Crewe continued the fight-back and scored a double to equalise at 3-3 when Charlie Kirk fired home before Owen Dale glanced home a header.

Kirk then missed the opportunity to put Lunt's side ahead for the first time from the penalty spot, but Dale tapped home to eventually make it 4-3.

It looked as if The Alex had staged a miraculous comeback to win, but the visitors were awarded a second penalty late on for Josh Lundstram's hand-ball on the line, and they dispatched the kick for a share of the spoils.

Crewe: Harrison, Quinn, Dowsett (Finney, 22), Wilkinson, Neal, Kirk, Lundstram, Riley, Dale, Whalley, Higham
