Nugent Aiming To Get Over 'Horrible' Defeat

Defender hoping to put Cup exit very firmly behind him.

Crewe Alexandra defender Ben Nugent is hoping to put Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Eastleigh firmly behind him with a positive display at Bradford this weekend. Nugent has told us how the Alex dressing room was devastated to exit the FA Cup to non-league opposition at Gresty Road and how the players are determined to get back on track this month.

Crewe travel to Valley Parade this weekend on the back of an encouraging first home win of the season against Sheffield United last time out and Nugent believes that result and performance should ignite more confidence amongst the squad.

Nugent told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: “It was a horrible weekend after the Eastleigh result, especially when the draw is on Monday and you are not in the hat.

“Eastleigh came with a game plan, stuck to it, had that bit of luck you sometimes need and we were out. The FA Cup can be like that and we got done.

“I can assure the fans that the players were hurting on Saturday and into Sunday. We understood the fans frustration because we felt exactly the same as they did. It was very disappointing but in football you have to get yourself up very quickly and go again.

“We came into training on Monday went through what we had to and go with it. Our focus then changed to Bradford at the weekend and it is a chance for us to bounce back.

“It is always nice to play at Bradford. It is a great stadium and they have 15,000 or so most weeks, so it should be a great atmosphere. If we can go there and put on another performance similar to the Sheffield United one then we have every chance of getting a god result. “
