Boss Praise For Guthrie Consistency

4 November 2015

Jon Guthrie relishing the challenge of fighting for his place.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has praised the consistency of full-back Jon Guthrie following recent injuries to centre-back George Ray and left-back Stephen Kingsley. Guthrie has shown his versatility by playing in both positions when called upon by the boss and he is currently in possession of the full-back spot after some solid displays.

Although Steve Davis does see his future as a centre-half, but he admits that he has no concerns of playing the former Pewsey Vale youngster as a full-back.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Jon has done really well recently and he deserves his place in the team. He knows that if he plays consistently well then he keeps his place.

“He has been one of most consistent players of late at left-back and it is a bit disrespectful to just say he has done well filling in because he has been better than that.

“I do see his longer term position as a centre-half but I am have no concerns playing him left back because he is a defensive minded left-back. He also gives us some extra height in both penalty boxes. That is a great bonus for us.

“Jon’s attitude has been spot on and he is more than holding his own and has benefitted from playing fairly regularly.”
