Talks To Progress With Tootle

19 May 2015

Steve Davis says he will seek talks with his skipper over his future

Steve Davis says he will re-enter into talks with club captain Matt Tootle whenever he is ready. Tootle and his partner have just become proud parents for the first time and the Alex boss says it is important that the 24-year-old defender spends time with his young family visit before he consider his immediate future.

Tootle is out of contract this summer and will be looking forward to an injury-free season next time out after having his previous campaign hampered by an ankle injury. Steve Davis is hoping that the experienced performer will remain at Crewe Alexandra and recapture the form that saw him win the 2013/14 player-of-the-season awards.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Matt and his partner have had their first baby. We congratulate them on that and it is important that he spends some time with his family.

“I spoke to him just before his girlfriend was due to give birth and just told him that when he was ready, we will see down and discuss his future with us.

“I’m sure we will sit down and have a frank and honest discussion and he knows that everyone at the club wants him to stay. We know what a fit Matt Tootle can offer us.”
