Crewe boss pleased that club have a foundation to build from

.Steve Davis says that securing our League One status on the final day of the season gives the club that cushion of having another league before the Conference. The Alex boss points to the demise of Tranmere Rovers as a danger to all Football League clubs, as it was not that long ago that the Birkenhead based club were competing in the Championship alongside the Railwaymen

Crewe avoided relegation on the final day of the season after collecting 52 points over a tough season. The Railwaymen managed to turn around a poor start to survive in the third tier of English football and Davis says it is a relief to have that safety net in place.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Everyone has seen what has happened to Tranmere Rovers. They have dropped out of the league completely and they are a similar sized club to us. It can happen and that is our concern.

in League Two and there was a concern that we could drop out. We managed to turn that around and get promotion after a terrific run.th“We wanted to have that safety of another league before the Conference. When I took over we were 18

“It would be a disaster to drop out of the League and the consequences that can come with that. We have survived in League One and we want to build from there, but it is nice to have that cushion again.

The boss added: “We want to be more competitive in this division and improve in what we do.”
