Midfielder Will Be Key To Recruitment

26 May 2015

Neil Baker says club will look to improve midfield to build entertaining team

Neil Baker says the club will attempt to recruit a new central midfield player to make us tick in the ‘engine room’. Baker says that manager Steve Davis wants us to play more football next season and has made a ball playing midfielder as his number one priority.

The club’s assistant manager told the official web-site: “We have talked about playing more football next season. I think we have played some good football but we want to pass the ball more in midfield. It is something we will look to address this summer when we look to bring new players in.

“We want a ball playing midfielder. I think that is crucial to the way we want to play. In the past we have been able to produce our own players capable to doing that. We have had the Danny Murphys, the Lennons, the Whalley and more recently Luke Murphy and Ashley Westwood.

“When you have to replace those type of players it is difficult but our philosophy is to play football through midfield. If we can get one or two capable of doing that then I think we would become a more entertaining side.

“The midfield was a concern for us last season. People will say we didn’t score a lot of goals and conceded too many but we also have to look at improving the midfield.

“Finding that quality midfield player is the key to our recruitment. The engine room is the most important area.”
