Important To Tie Up Turton & Guthrie

13 May 2015

Steve Davis says he will sit down with Turton and Guthrie about improving their deals after their impact last season.

Steve Davis says he is eager to tie up defenders Ollie Turton and Jon Guthrie on new and improved contracts after electing to exercise their one year options at the conclusion of the season. The club have informed the two players that they will be retained for the 2015/16 season but Davis has stressed that he will sit down with both players to hopefully agree a new extended deal on better terms.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We have taken out the options on Jon (Guthrie) and Ollie (Turton) because they are the type of players we want to keep. They have improved with the games and will continue to improve.

“Ollie was involved in almost every game last season and he finished the season strongly for us. He can also play in midfield and has that versatility to play in a number of different positions.

“Jon can also play at centre-half or at left-back although going forward he is a central defender rather than a full-back. They can both fill positions when needed though and have been important members of the squad. They never complain and want to do well.

“I am sure we will sit down and talk about an improved contract going forward. It is then up to them if they accept or not but I’m sure they realise the improvement they have made by playing games here.“
