Steve Davis would like to add one or two more experinced players to help his young group.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that things are ‘gathering pace’ when it comes to planning his squad for next season. The Alex boss is still in negotiations with a number of players about their futures with their contracts set to expire this summer.

The Alex boss told the club’s official web-site: “It is going to be a busy closed season for myself, the staff and our scout Chris Johnson. Things have gathered some pace and we have already had a number of meetings to discuss things and what we can do better.

“I am still talking to some of our out of contract players and we are mindful of what we want and need to improve the team if we can.

“There will be a number of free agents about this summer and once we know who is fully available then we will start to act on that. Of course, the club will continue to work within the restraints of our budget.

“We have a commitment to youth and have offered five of our young scholars a professional contact, so that will form a large chunk of our Under-21s for next year.

He added: “I would like to strengthen the squad with some experience and we will look to do that with two or three. We want to maintain our League One status and do better in this league.”
