Boss says Haber's International call-up not ideal but says it will get him match fit for start of season
If selected for the forthcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States, Marcus Haber will miss most of his club’s pre-season preparations. Although manager Steve Davis says it is never ideal to have a player away on International duty for a considerable length of time, he is confident that Haber will come back in fine condition to begin the season.
. thIf Haber’s Canada were to get to the later stages of the tournament and reach the Final then that would take him right up until July 26
Davis says his Canadian International forward will have his break now, in May, before returning to pre-season training when his country’s participation in the Gold Cup comes to a close.
Steve told crewealex.net: “It is not ideal having Marcus away for most of June and July but he will get his break now before joining up for their training camp in early June. He will then have some more time off before the tournament starts in early July.
“It does not affect our pre-season preparations but he should come back very fit and ready because he would have been training with Canada and will have the intensity of the matches if selected. It will depend how far they go in the competition to when he returns to us. We will receive all the data and details of his training sessions from Canada, so we will know what he has done over the summer.
“We will assess how he is once he does return to see if there is any fatigue there with the intensity of being involved in a tournament and the travelling involved. We will just have to take it from there once he comes back in July.”
