Greg Leigh Fits The Bill

Neil Baker says City left-back is one we would like to sign on a permanent basis

Neil Baker says Crewe Alexandra would like to sign Greg Leigh on a permanent deal because he has shown that he ‘fits into what we do’. Leigh, 20 played 42 matches on loan from Manchester City last season and he finished the season with the goal of the season gong after his spectacular strike against Scunthorpe United in a 2-0 win in March.

Now available following his release from City, Crewe are hoping that the athletic left-back will return to Gresty Road next season as our own player. Steve Davis has already met with the player’s representative to declare our interest in signing him on a permanent basis.

Neil Baker told the club’s official web-site: “Greg is available and he fits into what we want to do. He is a young player who has come here on loan from a top club and in the past that was our best route.

“We signed the likes of Neil Lennon, Craig Hignett and David Platt like that. Greg fit the bill and he is one we are considering. He is still young and still has a lot to learn but he is a young player who wants to listen and learn.

He added: “Greg played a lot of games for us on loan last season, more than any other loan player in the Football League and he showed that he could overcome adversity to regain his place when he found it tough going.”
