Dressing Room Is Unique Here

Steve Davis says it can take time for experienced 'outsiders' to adjust.

Steve Davis believes that the unique environment at Crewe Alexandra can sometimes mean that experienced players need time to adjust. The Alex boss says that because of the majority of the squad being so young it can sometimes be a totally new situation for an experienced professional from outside the club to enter the dressing room.

Steve has told the club’s official web-site that he would like to add some more experience to his squad, especially if Anthony Grant elects to move elsewhere this summer.

The Alex manager said: “We hope to bring in one or two players with a bit of experience but finances will dictate that.

“We hope we can find one or two who would slot in and help the younger group. That is easier said than done because it is a unique environment at Crewe. It is a young squad and when you are used to being in a dressing room full of experienced players it can take some getting used to.

“Those players with experience sometimes need some time to adjust. That was certainly the case when Granty came in. He was used to being amongst senior players and then suddenly he was one the oldest.

He added: “When we recruit from outside, we have to make sure we can attract the right characters because they can be important to helping the young players develop.”
