Steve to take more responsibility and control over fitness of his players

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he will become more hands on when it comes to the fitness of his squad next season.

The Alex boss is looking to improve aspects of the club and will now oversee concerning training and fitness.

Steve told crewealex.net: “When I first came into the club, I felt the players were not as fit as they could be. I took full control of that and got them fitter. From that we got performances.

“Maybe I lost a little bit of focus on and we don’t have enough people at the club doing the sports science of things. We probably need three or four to work around the Academy, the Under-21s and the first team.

“Too many times this season and periods of last season, I felt we were having to make substitutions too early in the game due to fitness.

“That was certainly the case when we had Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday games and we need to see how we can recover quicker and better and I include their lifestyle and recovery in that as well. “

He added: “Now it will be my responsibility to take total control of the fitness of the players.”
