Steve targets ball playing midfield player this summer.
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says his main transfer target will be to try and find a ball playing midfield player this summer. The Alex boss is still in conversation with Anthony Grant and Jamie Ness about the possibility of them extending their stay at Crewe, but he is also looking for reinforcements just in case they elect to go elsewhere or in Ness’ case remain at Stoke City for his final year.
His aim is to improve his midfield options to operate alongside the promising James Jones and perhaps George Cooper in a new attack minded role off the front.
The Crewe Alexandra boss told the club’s official web-site: “We need to look to improve the midfield. I would like to sign a central midfielder, who can get the ball off the back four and get us playing. I think we have missed that since we lost Ashley Westwood and then Luke Murphy.
“Of course, replacing that calibre of player is extremely difficult and that is the best we have had for a number of years with Nick Powell in that triangle as well. I would like that type of midfield player, one who can keep us ticking over and run the game for us.
The boss added: “I would also like to add a goalscorer and a winger but that will depend on who is available and the finances. We are okay going forward with Coco, Haber, Lauri, Brad, George Cooper and the young ones Callum Saunders and Fraser Murdoch back from injury but we will look to see who is available.”
