Baker: "We All Want Matt Tootle To Stay"

26 May 2015

Neil Baker says he wants club captain to remain and help us next season

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Neil Baker says that he hopes Matt Tootle will commit his future to the Football Club after holding talks with the chairman and manager Steve Davis last week.

Tootle missed the majority of last season through injury but the club are still keen to sign one of their most senior players on a new deal. Tootle, who captained the club before injuring his ankle, has made 199 league appearances for Crewe, since breaking through from the Academy ranks in 2009.

Baker told the club’s official web-site: “I know that the chairman and Steve have spoken to Matt and spoke about an offer. It is something that Matt has taken away and is considering.

“We all want him here. We all want him to stay and would be disappointed to lose him.

“We know that it was a frustrating season for Matt because of injury but we know that a fit and playing Matt Tootle is one of the best full-backs in the division. We want to keep our best players if we can and the conversations I have had with Matt, he feels that he is at the best club for him at the moment.”
