U21: Millwall 2-1 Crewe

27 March 2015

Collins' young side slip to back-to-back defeats

Crewe Alexandra Under 21's suffered their second defeat in a week despite substitute Chris Speed netting an equaliser seven minutes from time in an eventual 2-1 defeat to Millwall at The Den.

QPR defeated James Collins' experienced side 3-2 at Gresty Road on Monday night, but he was forced to take a group filled with teenagers and trialists to London with the first team at Sheffield United & the U18's at Ipswich Town tomorrow.

It took the Lions just six minutes to open the scoring, Magaye Gueye firing the hosts into the lead from the edge of the box.

Gueye had chances to extend that lead, but the Alex fought back in the second half with Callum Saunders going close.

Super-sub Speed thought he had rescued a point on 83 minutes when he scrambled home from a corner, but Angel stabbed home at the second attempt for Millwall just a minute from time to secure all three points.

Crewe Alex U21: Matthews, Trialist, Mullarkey, Kearns, Neal, Wintle, Trialist, Baillie, Waters, O'Neill, Saunders.
Subs: Speed, Ainley, Finney
