Steve Davis gives us his post match reaction from Spotland following defeat
Rochdale sealed their third win over Crewe Alexandra this season thanks to two goals each from their strike pairing of Henderson (both from the penalty spot) and Bunney. Crewe were second best on the night and once again Rochdale ran away with the contest to win 4-0. Crewe, who held Swindon to a goalless draw on Saturday at Gresty Road, have now lost three successive away games.
Following a disappointing result and display at Spotland, Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “It was a disappointing result and performance from and I expected better from us tonight. I’ve got no excuses from us, we have been beaten by a better side and we couldn’t cope with their movement. They wore us down in the end and we couldn’t match or live with their intensity.
“It wasn’t a night for pretty football. We wanted them to try and get the ball down and play, but we couldn’t do that. It was about winning those individual battles and not many of them did that. I thought the two centre halves did more good things than bad and Ollie competed until he went off injured but other than that there wasn’t enough from us.
“It became a bombardment and we couldn’t cope with it. We did have two decent chances. Nessy got in but it hit the side of his foot when I thought he was going to lift it over their goalkeeper and Nicky had a chance in the second half but we didn’t create nearly enough.
“I was disappointed because we didn’t match their work effort and I was disappointed because we didn’t show how much we have improved from earlier in the season. We have improved but didn’t show that this evening.
“We can’t dwell on this too much because we have to get going again on Saturday but we won’t brush it under the carpet either. We will have a cool down tomorrow and go through the DVD.”
