George Ray set to train after rib injury

George Ray has only suffered severe bruising to his ribs and has been able to train today. The club’s Wales Under-21 International missed Saturday’s 2-0 win over Scunthorpe after getting a knee in the ribs against Rochdale on Tuesday evening.

Ray has not fractured his ribs and has been able to join in non-contact training today. He will train again fully towards the end of the week before a decision will be made on his availability for this weekend’s trip to Preston North End.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “George has bruised his ribs after a collision at Rochdale.

“He will train today, but it will be non-contact to see how he does. It will stop him getting another blow in that area.

“You do miss the players who have been playing in the team and George has had a decent season. He has had some bad game but he has also had some very good ones as well.

“He has done well since he has had a run of games and he is still learning the game. He heads the ball well in both boxes and we miss his aerial presence.

“Saying that Jon Guthrie did very well on Saturday and it is good to know we have Guthers there who can fill at centre-half or at left-back.”
