Ray Expected To Train Today

Boss expects defender to be ready after rib injury

Crewe Alexandra defender George Ray is expected to resume training this morning ahead of the club’s trip to promotion contenders Preston North End. Ray missed last weekend’s 2-0 win over Scunthorpe after suffering bruised ribs against Rochdale. Jon Guthrie returned to the side as his replacement.

Ray participated in training on Tuesday but was unopposed as to not to suffer a blow in his sore ribcage.

Ray did some extra running the head physio Rob Sharp to top up his fitness level but he will not play for the club’s Under-21s at Sheffield United this evening.

Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “George has trained this week but it was non -contact. He has some severe bruising in the ribs and did some extra work with Rob (Sharp) to make sure he is ready and sharp if we need him.

“No decision has been made on the team for Saturday but if he can declare himself fit and available then that is a bonus to us.

“George won’t play for the Under-21s today. He is not short of match fitness, after only missing the one game. The rest may have done him some good as well because he is still young.”
