Steve Davis says points needed not crawling back goal difference
Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he is more concerned with points rather than our minus goal difference. Although not pleased with the number of goals we have conceded this season, especially on the road, the Alex boss has stated that it is too late to worry about crawling back goals in the run-in. There would be too much of a swing needed to make a difference and Davis is more focussed on getting the points we will need rather than our poor goal difference.
The Alex boss stressed to the club’s official web-site: “I don’t think we can worry too much about the goal difference now. We need to make sure we get enough points to make sure that our inferior goal difference won’t count for anything.
“We would need an almighty swing in goals to make a difference. I think we would need to keep a clean sheet in our remaining 10 games and we won’t do that.
“There will be some games we will win and some we won’t and all we can do is get on with it and make sure we stay in control of our destiny. We had to rely on a few results last season but we managed to get it back into our own hands on the final day of the season and see it through.
“I would like it to be resolved sooner than that and kick on and look forward. The most important thing is we stay in control and we have plenty of games left to get points. We have Crawley, Oldham, Orient and Walsall at home coming up so there is plenty to play for.
“Those teams in and around us have got to play each other as well at some point, so they will take points off each other as well. It is sure be tense in the remaining 10 games but most of us have the experience of last season and we know what we have to do.”
