Loan Plan Shelved For Moment

17 March 2015

Boss says he is happy with his five loan players at the moment

Steve Davis has informed that he has put any plans to sign another player on loan after the re-capture of Uche Ikpeazu on Friday on hold. The Alex boss swooped to sign the Watford striker on loan until the end of the season after a similar agreement didn’t quite work out for him at Doncaster Rovers.

The signing of 20-year-old Ikpeazu has taken our quota of loan signings back to five and Steve is understandably reluctant to add to that number at the moment. The emergency loan window closes next Thursday and although the Alex boss would like to add another goalkeeper to replace the injured Ben Garratt and offer competition and cover to Paul Rachubka, he doesn’t want to leave any of his key loan players out to accommodate one in his 18-man matchday squad.

Steve told the “With Uche coming back we now are back to five loan players. To get another one in would not be ideal because it would mean that I would have to leave one of them out and in fairness they have been key players for us.

“They have all played their part and I would be reluctant to leave one of them out of the 18-man squad and make them sit in the stand.

“I am still mindful that I would like another goalkeeper because losing Ben was a blow to us at a crucial time. We had just secured Paul (Rachubka) to come in and offer that competition and cover to Ben and then he got injured almost straight away.

“If we were to loan another goalkeeper then understandably the club loaning him would want him to play. If we were to bring another loan one in then that would take us to six and I can only have five in the matchday squad.

“We have had to adjust and I am sure we will sit down and assess things after the next two games, before the emergency loan window ends next Thursday.”
