Having Coco Back Is A Massive Boost

Davis praise for match winner Colclough

Steve Davis has told the club’s official that having a fit and in-form Ryan Colclough could provide a timely boost during the decisive run-in. Colclough repaid the managers’ faith in him by coming off the substitutes bench to score a decisive winner at Bramall Lane on Saturday. It was Coco’s first involvement at senior level since a cameo appearance against near neighbours Port Vale back in November 2013.

Colclough had missed over 15 months of football due to a troublesome hernia problem and the Alex have certainly missed his match changing potential.

After the 2-1 win at Bramall Lane, the manager told us: “Ryan did what we know he can. He is a young player with huge potential and we have had to be careful with him because of the amount of football he has missed. He has only played two 90 minutes for the Under-21s and we have kept an eye on him in training if he needs to stretch or rest.

“I had no hesitation to put him on at Sheffield United though because I thought he could be our match winner. I thought he could get something for us and I’m glad I made that decision. He has that confidence and swagger about him and I think you need a bit of that if you are going to be a good player.

He added: “He produced a strike virtually out of nothing to win us the game and hopefully that will give him even more confidence. It is great for him, the group and the club to have a player of huge potential back with us. “
