Garratt Signs New Contract

25 March 2015

Great news for the club as talented goalkeeper signs new deal to take him through to 2017.

Ben Garratt has become the latest Crewe Alexandra youngster to extend his contract with the Football Club. The England Youth International goalkeeper has signed a new and improved contract to take him through to the summer of 2017.

Ben joins fellow Crewe Academy graduates Harry Davis and George Ray in committing his future to the club. Garratt, 20, has made 34 appearances for the club this season and had fully established himself as the number one goalkeeper before he suffered a fracture of the leg away at Barnsley last month. It is hoped that he will recover to play some part before the end of the season.

Garratt has made 62 senior appearances for the club after making his debut in Crewe Alexandra’s ‘home grown’ team of 2013. On the final day of the 2012/13 season, the Alex fielded a starting XI totally made up of players who had come through the club’s renowned Academy. Garratt kept a clean-sheet in the 2-0 win over Walsall.

The really promising goalkeeper has represented England right through to Under-19 level and has seen off competition from the more experienced Steve Phillips, Alan Martin and Scott Shearer to become Steve Davis’ first choice goalkeeper over the last two seasons.

The Market Drayton born goalkeeper also spent time out on loan with Stafford Rangers in 2013 and his outstanding form saw him nominated for the December Player-of-the-Month award for League One.

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Ben on his new deal.
