3 March 2015

Football great passes away at the age of 80

The football world is today mourning one of the greatest British players of all time. Sadly, the former Tottenham, Derby County and Scotland player Dave Mackay has passed away at the age of 80.

The Edinburgh-born Mackay won 10 major honours during his career, including the double with Spurs in 1961 and the First Division title with Derby County in 1975.

Mackay was named both Footballer of the Year in Scotland and England during his career and he also won 22 caps for Scotland and later managed Walsall, Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham after being a player/manager with Nottingham Forest and Swindon Town.

A minute's applause will be held in honour of Mackay before Scotland's friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park on 25 March.
