Davis: "Plenty Of Twists And Turns Yet"

Steve Davis says surprise results will occur in decisive run-in

Steve Davis says there will be plenty of twists and turns in the remaining eight games of the season. Crewe Alexandra suffered a 1-0 home reverse to Oldham Athletic on Saturday with second half substitute Conor Wilkinson grabbing the only goal of the game. In a game of very few chances, the contest appeared to be heading towards a goalless draw until a lapse in concentration at the back allowed Wilkinson to pop up with a priceless winner with 16 minutes left.

The Alex boss believes there will continue to be some surprise results during the run-in that can flip the race to survive or at the other end of the table, secure a play-off place.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We still have the games to do it. We have to play some of the teams in and around us in the table but we have to improve. Our home record had been relatively good until Saturday’s result, so all we can do is dust ourselves and go again.

“I think there will always be those surprise results in the run-in. They tend to happen at the end of the season when players are fatiguing or injuries and suspensions play their part.

He added: “We just have to prepare the best we can and make sure we are mentally and physically ready for the challenge. The players will be ready and we know what we have to do.”
