Boss Delight After Garratt Signs

Steve Davis says determined young goalkeeper is in right place to progress

Steve Davis was full of praise for his young goalkeeper Ben Garratt after he became the latest youngster to pen a new contract with the club. Garratt followed defenders George Ray and Harry Davis by committing his future until the summer of 2017 and Davis was delighted with the straightforwardness of the agreement.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “As usual with all our young players we are pleased when they commit their future to the Football Club. Ben is improving all the time. He has had a fantastic season for us and it was a blow when he got injured, but hopefully we will see him again before the end of the season.

“He knows he is in the right place to develop, improve as a goalkeeper and most importantly get games under his belt. The only way he is going to push on and get even better is by playing games.

“Ben deserved his extension and his agent was very good. He knows what this club is about and understands that we give our players the opportunity to play and gain experience. Ben is going in the right direction and this is reward for all his hard work.

“Ben is quiet and go about his business in a professional manner. He knows what he wants from his career and he is still only 20. The career for a goalkeeper is longer than an outfield player and he is very early in his. He has played 60 plus games and with the two years more he could surpass 150 games and that is what he needs.

He added: “He was involved with the England set-up as a young goalkeeper and there is no reason why he cannot get back into that because he is a promising young English goalkeeper who is getting experience every week.”
