Steve Davis says Crewe cannot afford to make same mistakes this evening

Steve Davis admits that his Crewe side face another major challenge against Bristol City this evening. The Crewe Alexandra boss has hailed Steve Cotterill’s runaway league leaders as the ‘best side’ in League One because they have been comfortably the most consistent team.

Ahead of the trip to Ashton Gate, Steve told crewealex.net: “It is another challenge for us, like it was against Preston at the weekend. They were flying and we found it difficult to contain their forward players at times. That is the difference between the top teams and the rest, they can call on that level of quality in forward areas.

It is that strength in depth that makes a massive difference.  “When it doesn’t quite work for them they can then bring even more quality off the bench.

“Bristol City have really caught the eye this season. They are the runaway leaders and deservedly so. They are top of the league because they are the most consistent team.

“They have a Wembley final on Sunday and Steve may look to change one or two things but they have a great squad and they will all be playing for their places.

“What we have to learn from Preston is that if you make the slightest mistake against the top teams then you are more likely than not to be punished. We have got to work hard and match them and eradicate our individual mistakes.”
