Steve: "Six Weeks Of Hard Graft Coming Up"

24 June 2015

Boss to oversee all aspects of pre-season preparations.

Steve Davis has told his squad to be ready mentally and physically ready for a tough six weeks of pre-season training. The Alex boss will be adopting a more hands on approach to their preparation in readiness for the big kick off again on 8th August. He will be overseeing everything from fitness, conditioning, nutrition, rest and recuperation, as well as hosting the tactical briefings.

The Alex boss told “The players worked hard on Monday, there were a lot of tests and that will continue. They started early at 9am and were still working beyond 3pm, so the players know they will be pushed this summer.

“The testing was to see where we are with the players and once this week is over they will be back full-time on Monday and there won’t be much down time.

“We have met with them and told them to make sure they are mentally and physically ready for the next six weeks because it is going to be tough. Even when there will need a rest we will be doing a tactical day or having some relaxation at the training ground.

“Myself, Neil (Baker) and James (Collins) will be organising and planning every day and we want this young group to be together and have that strong bond that has served us so well when we have been up against it in the last couple of seasons. That has helped us in the past.

“The training is going to be more intense. They are going to work hard and we will make sure that their sharpness and fitness improves. Everything will be geared towards that first game and making a better start to the season.

“We will also try and change their mind-set from thinking that it is going to be a tough season into one where they will do better.

Steve added: “I want to take the excuses away. I don’t want people saying we don’t recover from games well or we struggle to play Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, I want to eliminate all that. I want us to be fit and ready; it’s as simple as that.”
