Steve: "Good For Players To Play When Fatigued"

26 June 2015

Boss says training will be more intense as we for a return to full training next week.

Steve Davis says he will demand the intensity to be greater in training session as he wants his players to play and think whilst mentally and physically fatigued. The Alex boss is aiming to alter the mind-set of his squad to make sure they are better equipped to cope with any situation or scenario that is thrown at them next season.

The Crewe boss will adopt a more hands on approach to pre-season training to make sure his players can recover from games better as the demands of a 46-game league season kick in.

The Alex players are set to return to full-time training on Monday after undergoing a week of training.

Steve told crewealex.net: “We will make the pre-season tougher. I think having the mixture of old school running, weight training and technical and tactical training is the best way. It is getting the right blend and making it interesting for the players.

“We will push them hard and it will be more intense. I’ve told the players during the week that they need to be in the right frame of mind because it will be mentally challenging. I want them to build that momentum and get better.

“It will be tough going and I want to go again when they are tired so they are prepared for it. I think it will benefit them, so they are ready for those last ten minutes when they may have to dig in to get a result. We let some leads slip last season, especially towards the end of the season and that could have been due to fatigue so we will do our best to eliminate that. “
