Retaining Possession Better Will Help

11 June 2015

James Collins says that a more footballing ethos will help with energy levels

James Collins is hopeful that by introducing more ball playing players into the Crewe Alexandra side next season will only help with our fitness levels. The club’s first-team coach believes that if we can retain possession better then we won’t exhaust unnecessary energy reverses by pressing the opposition so much.

James told the club’s official web-site: “There will be a conscious effort to return to the Crewe brand of football. In search of results, we have perhaps lost that at times over the last 12 months, but we want to produce good footballers here and it is this club’s way to pass the ball.

“I think we have rightly mixed that up at times but playing attractive football is the right way for this club.

“The fitness has been mentioned and we can improve on that, but I also think that if we keep the ball better then we won’t have to do so much chasing.

James added: “There have been times when we have come out of the traps but have faded and that is something we will look at. That may come with a bit more experience and reserving energy because when you are playing under pressure that nervousness can burn energy.”
