In Contention For Leigh Switch

5 June 2015

Steve Davis says Leigh's agent knows what we can offer him to make loan switch permanent.

Steve Davis believes that Crewe Alexandra are in contention to possibly sign Greg Leigh on a permanent contract this summer. The Alex boss has already held two discussions with Leigh’s advisors and he remains hopeful that the promising left-back will consider a move to Crewe following his successful loan spell with us last season.

The 20-year-old made 42 appearances last season on loan from Manchester City and scored the Goal-of-the Season winner in a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United.

Leigh is out of contract this summer and Davis is hoping that Crewe’s North West location and an opportunity to play could tempt Leigh back to the Alexandra Stadium.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I have met with Greg’s agent and he knows what we can offer him. We are just waiting for them to get back to us. It is a waiting process at the moment with a number of players.

“He is having a bit of time to think things over and Greg has been on holiday, so we understand that these things can take a bit of time. I know he enjoyed his time with us and we saw an improvement in him when he was here.

“Greg is a player with potential and we feel there is more to come from him. He also has the right attitude to the work to take him there.

The boss added: “I just hope he comes to the right decision. He is a local lad and is close to his family, so hopefully that will be an advantage. I don’t know if other clubs are interested or have made him any offers, but he knows what we would like to keep him.”
