Hopefully No Surprises

Steve Davis hoping that there are no late departures like Pogba last season.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he has not received any offers for his own players and admits that those things are completely out of his hand until the transfer window closes on 1st September.

Davis was disappointed with the way Mathias Pogba left the club just days before the new season started, especially after using the Guinean International throughout the pre-season campaign.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “You cannot really control if someone comes in for one of your players. Westy (Ash Westwood) went on deadline day a few years ago when Aston Villa came in late in the afternoon and that can happen.

“We kind of knew that Westy was one that could go at the time. It was a bit different with Pogs last season. We had included him in all our pre-season games and a few days before the season starts he has expressed a desire to leave for Italy.

“You cannot plan for that, ones that come right out of the blue and we were disappointed because it didn’t give us a lot of time to find a replacement. We struggled to get another one in and it affected us.

Steve added: “It is something we had to deal with at the time and you have to deal with as a manager.”
