Grant Unlikely To Return

Alex boss says he is looking for alternative to the combative Anthony Grant

Steve Davis has told crewealex.net that it is ‘unlikely’ that Anthony Grant will remain with the club. Grant is out of contract this summer and Davis admits that the club are unlikely to offer him a new and improved deal as the former Southend and Stevenage man was one of the club’s highest earners after arriving in the summer of 2013. The Crewe boss is seeking alternatives and has highlighted two new midfield players as his top priority.

Grant played 48 times for the Railwaymen last season, scoring twice, and he was voted runner-up to goalkeeper Ben Garratt when it came to the Player-of-the-Season awards.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “It is unlikely that Anthony will come back and he is out of contract this summer, so he is entitled to speak to other clubs. I’m sure he has been out there seeing what is about.

“It is unlikely we will offer him a new deal because the figures were high from when he first came here. We certainly couldn’t go beyond that.

He added: “We will look for alternatives and see what is out there for us. “
