Davis Looking To Balance Squad

26 June 2015

Alex boss says he needs to bring in some experience to balance out his young squad.

Steve Davis has revealed that he would like to bring in a couple of players with experience to bolster his young squad, but he has stressed that age can just be a number. The Alex boss has targeted a new left-back after a proposed deal for Greg Leigh seems to have hit stalemate over personal terms.

Two new midfielders remain his top priority though and he has already spoken to a player from a Premier League club, who has playing experience in the Football League.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “When we come to the end of June and the beginning of July, decisions have to be made. I want to bring in players we will be excited about.

“If we can get these players signed then we’ll start with a much better squad.

“I know the team is relatively young and we need to replace some of the players that have left us, like Anthony Grant. We would like some experienced players and that could be those 30+ players or it could be players who are younger but have played games.

“Some experience could settle the group and help us but there are players who are 30+ who have not played as many games as some 23, 24 year-olds.

“I will look to balance out the squad with some more experience but the priority will be to improve with quality regardless.”
