First team coach James Collins pleased that players are taking advantage of summer sessions.
First team coach James Collins says that he has been pleased with the number of players coming in over the summer to keep their fitness levels up in readiness for the pre-season work.
The Alex players have been asked to come in twice a week to work on their conditioning and to participate in organised weight lighting sessions. When they have not been away on holiday, they have been at the training ground making sure they continue to tick over with their fitness.
James told the club’s official web-site: “Football has moved on. It is a lot different from when I was playing and has changed dramatically over the last 10 years with players knowing they have to look after themselves a lot more.
“The days of players going away for weeks and coming back to pre-season unfit are long gone now. They have to keep themselves fit because if they are not when the work starts then they are left behind.
The first team coach added: “I think it is good to have sessions twice a week, just to make sure that their fitness levels are kept ticking over nicely. We are starting back earlier than usual and I am sure the staff will make sure we are ready for the new season.”
