Signing For Crewe Was A 'No Brainer'

14 July 2015

David Fox on signing for Crewe Alexandra.

David Fox has told Crewe Alex PlayerHD that signing for Crewe Alexandra was a ‘no brainer’. The 31-year-old midfielder has become Steve Davis’ third summer signing and completes the re-invention of his midfield alongside fellow new captures Billy Bingham and Adam King.

Fox has signed a 12-month deal and could be involved in this Friday’s friendly game at Newcastle Town and at Nantwich on Sunday.

The midfielder told Crewe Alex PlayerHD: “It is great to get it all sorted and it is great to be here. Now I can knuckle down knowing that I am here for the season.

“I have been here for a couple of weeks, training with the team and the lads have all been great with me. The manager, Neil (Baker) and James (Collins) have all been great with me from the start and it is not as though I am playing catch up. I have done the pre-season work and it has been tough.

“I think at this stage of the season, it is important to have that training under your belt and it has been a huge plus for me to come in and do the work. The group is young but I think that will keep me young. It will push me on to keep up with them and with young players they play with no fear. I have seen that since I came here, they all want to get on the ball and play.

“I had that at Colchester last season because they are trying something similar to Crewe. They are promoting their own young players from the Academy into the first team squad but I also think it is important to have a few older heads around the place and I will try to pass on my experience of playing in this division and in higher divisions.

“When I knew that Crewe were interested in me it was a no brainer really. People were staying that I needed to move back to the North West but that wasn’t the reason. Things didn’t pan out the way I wanted at Colchester at the end and I decided to move on this summer.

“I had a good feeling at Crewe and they play the right way. I wanted to come here and play football and I cannot wait to get going.

David added: “There is only so much training you can do. Every player needs games and I am available for this week, so hopefully I will get some game time that will help me fitness wise.”
